THIS IS WHAT WE'RE DOING HERE
We have never taken ourselves too seriously. We don't think anyone should. People we like to hang-out with have a sense of humor. So on the day we encountered our first rude customer, we began compiling a set of "House Rules." We hoped by doing so, we would continue to enjoy ourselves in our new line of work. And every time we ran across another person who had no idea how to behave in public, we'd add another rule to the list. We eventually called these rules "Stuff You Really Need To Know," and printed them on the cover of our menu.
THE IDIOT BAROMETER
Our loyal fans have always loved the no-nonsense approach our house rules represent. They know we're just having fun, and they're in-on-the-joke. But the people who are offended by our rules tend to be the high-maintenance, self-absorbed idiots we prefer didn't come to our bar. They're no damned fun at all. So, fortunately for us, our house rules ended up being the perfect "Idiot Barometer." They help keep tight-assed idiots out, while simultaneously attracting people who are cool, laid-back, and looking to have a good time. And that's what The Vortex is all about. Having a good time. So it couldn't have worked out better, even if we had actually planned it.
We believe operating our bar is comparable to hosting a big party for our best friends. Every day. All day. All year round. It's a big job, and we take it very seriously, because we always want our friends to have a great time. We want to be great hosts, so we consistently offer a lively atmosphere, award-winning food (including the Best Burger in Atlanta) and a unique, extensive selection of booze and specialty cocktails. Our staff is genuinely fun, friendly and ultimately, professional. And we're always looking for ways to improve our operation. Our to-do list is a mile long, and no matter how many goals we accomplish, it never gets any shorter. The Vortex is a project that never ends, so it's a really good thing we love it.
NOT FOR EVERYONE
If nothing else, we are realists. We completely understand that some people will like what we offer, and others will not. We have never tried to be all things to all people. We just do what we do, for the people that like what we do. We don't care about the people that don't like what we do. They can go somewhere else. It's the people who really appreciate the work we put into The Vortex that have made it such a rewarding experience. These wonderful people, these Vortex Fans, are the reason we have been so successful. So we would like to sincerely thank all our fans for their continued support. We couldn't have done it without you. When it comes right down to it, it’s all about the love, people.
